Quarter plate half-length studio portrait tintype. [Mississippi], circa 1861-1865. Separated full leatherette case.
Charming portrait of two youthful Confederate soldiers, possibly from Mississippi, wearing simple pocketed jackets likely produced in a southern depot. Interestingly, the jacket worn by the soldier on the left appears to feature large wooden buttons, while the jacket on the right features brass buttons. This image is an excellent candidate for close inspection as both the tone and clarity of the plate is exceptional.
The unidentified soldiers have similar features and are possibly brothers. The consignor relates that the image was previously found in the estate of the Walton Family of Holly Springs, Mississippi. More research may confirm their identities.
