.71 caliber. 42" barrel secured by three flat, spring retained bands. NSN.  Bright finish, iron furniture, walnut stock with recessed cheek rest. Single shot smoothbore muzzleloading musket altered from flint to percussion with a ball shaped brazed on bolster and a civilian style percussion hammer, missing the sling swivels, with a brass blade front sight and a steel button head ramrod. 6.25" flat, beveled percussion altered lock marked "US/{Eagle}/Springfield" below the bolster and dated "1816" vertically at the tail. Barrel dated "181?" with the last number illegible. Breech with a partially legible Springfield Armory alphanumeric "serial number" and weak P/{Eaglehead} proof marks. No cartouches are present on the counterpane. A nice untouched example of a percussion altered Standard Model of 1815, which is a fairly scarce musket in its own right. {ANTIQUE}

Good attic condition. Bore dark, dirty, oxidized and pitted. Metal moderately oxidized with moderate pitting at the breech and showing a dull grayish brown patina with scattered age discoloration, light surface roughness and some areas of pitting. Markings in metal remain mostly legible, none in wood. Mechanically functional lock with the original flint mainspring remaining extremely strong. Hammer skirt about half broken as a result. Wood with moderate wear and fading towards a lighter brown, with scattered bumps, dings, mars and marks from decades of handling and use.
