A collection of 8 cased tintype portraits. Most of the subjects are Union soldiers. Views include:

1. Ninth plate half-length studio portrait. Full leatherette case.

Portrait of a youthful Yankee staff sergeant coolly addressing the camera. His chevrons have been lightly tinted blue and his cheeks tinted pink.

2. Ninth plate half-length studio portrait. Full thermoplastic case.

The consignor relates that this young subject, sporting a forage cap and jacket unbuttoned save the topmost two, is David Bratton (1843-1928), who served with Company D of the 64th Ohio Infantry. Bratton partook in the Atlanta Campaign under Maj. Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman, seeing action at, notably, Rocky Face Ridge and Peachtree Creek. He mustered out with the regiment and became an active G.A.R. member.

3. Sixth plate half-length studio portrait. Full leatherette case.

The sitter strikes a "hand-in-waistcoat" pose. He wears a forage cap and frock coat to which the federal eagle buttons are remarkably clear under magnification. His cheeks have been hand tinted.

4. Sixth plate half-length studio portrait. Full leatherette case.

This portrait of a determined young postwar infantryman is expertly composed and exhibits wonderful clarity; on the table that he rests his arm upon sits his kepi with crossed rifles insignia, and several of his buttons face the camera dead on. Backdropped by a classical statuary scene.

5. Sixth plate half-length studio portrait. Full leatherette case.

While this portrait has undergone abrasive cleaning, resulting in an overall streaky, smeared look, clarity is preserved on several noteworthy aspects, including the subject's musket. He holds his weapon at an unusual angle, providing a look at its underside.

6. Ninth plate half-length studio portrait. Full thermoplastic case.

While the lips and cheeks of this pale, befreckled soldier have been subtly tinted, they are overshadowed by the vibrantly colored lining of his shell jacket and the gilding of his buttons.

7. Ninth plate half-length studio portrait. Half leatherette case.

Portrait of a subject wearing a military jacket with a loose, light garment beneath. His cheeks have been delicately tinted.

8. Ninth plate half-length studio portrait. Full thermoplastic case.

Portrait of a man in civilian clothes. Housed in a thermoplastic case with a depiction of the U.S.S. Monitor.
