Quarter plate outdoor tintype of a large cannon. Full leatherette case.
An unusual tintype of a large cannon of the variety typically employed at coastal forts during the Civil War. It appears to be a Naval 32-pounder, a relatively small seacoast cannon intended to be used against enemy ships. Perched in the sand on its impressive steel frame, its tube pokes out from above a parapet.
Images of Civil War cannons of any type are extremely rare; this is an excellent study of a rarer variant.
