A comprehensive collection of 25 Civil War-era albumen CDVs. This diverse assembly includes high-grade studio imprints from Mathew Brady, Charles Fredricks and the historically significant African American-owned gallery of Ball & Thomas. The lot features a range of ranks from private to brevet lieutenant colonel, with several subjects displaying visible corps badges, specialty pins and medals.

This collection serves as a cross-section of the Union officer corps and volunteer ranks. Highlighting the lot are:

1. Lt. William A. Snyder, 10th New York Cavalry, a twice-wounded veteran of Trevilian Station and Poplar Spring Church.

2. Capt. Luther Dame, 11th Massachusetts, a long-serving officer with a record spanning the Peninsula to Gettysburg.

3. Capt. Livermore, 13th Massachusetts, photographed in June 1863 just prior to the Pennsylvania campaign.

4. Maj. J.Z. Turtle Jr., 12th New York, representing the early-war "First Defenders" of 1861.

5. John Carlisle of Ohio, whose portrait bears the rare Ball & Thomas Cincinnati backmark.

6. Multiple unidentified officers featuring clear Fifth Corps (Maltese Cross) and 15th Corps (40 Rounds) badges.

7. A selection of New York, Massachusetts and Maine volunteers, including cavalrymen with visible identification pins and specialized equipment.

This 25-piece lot represents a rare "dealer’s choice" opportunity, sourced from the deep and meticulously curated collection of Rick Carlile. For the advanced collector or the dealer looking for high-upside inventory, this lot offers the thrill of the hunt. There is a high probability that "mining" these individual service records through the National Archives or period regimental histories will yield new discoveries, potentially uncovering lost narratives of the war’s most pivotal moments. This is an archive designed for the serious student of the Civil War who recognizes that the true value of a photograph often lies just beneath the surface of the mount.

[Civil War, Union, Confederate] [Photography, Early Photography, Historic Photography, Daguerreotypes, Ambrotypes, Tintypes, Cased Images, Union Cases, Albumen Photographs, CDVs, Carte de Visites, Cartes de Visite, Carte-de-visite, Cartes-de-visite, CDV, Cabinet Cards, Stereoviews, Stereocards]

Generally very fine throughout. A few cards show typical age-related foxing, clipped corners or period collector notations as expected. Tonal contrast remains strong on the majority of the imprints, particularly the Brady and Fredricks specimens. A premier, research-ready archive of Union history.
