Everybody Welcome Nixon-Lodge Civil Rights Rally... [Mount Vernon, New York], November 1960. 5 1/2 x 3 1/4 in.
A late-election political rally in support of Richard Nixon's campaign in the 1960 Presidential Election, notably featuring Olympian Jesse Owens.
Owens won four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin but faced difficulties returning to the United States. He became a supporter of the Republican Party, beginning with Alf Landon in the 1936 Presidential Election, stating in a public appearance: "Hitler didn’t snub me—it was [Roosevelt] who snubbed me. The president didn’t even send me a telegram.” He remained loyal to the Republican cause, speaking here at an event in support for Richard Nixon.
