Following the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869, the Central Pacific mainline across the Sierra Nevada became an engineering wonder celebrated worldwide. John James Reilly produced some of the most dynamic stereoscopic documentation of this crossing, capturing the terrifying drop at Cape Horn, the fortress-like timber snow galleries engineered to battle Sierra blizzards, and the vast industrial shops at Sacramento that serviced the transcontinental fleet.

Very good condition overall. The albumen prints retain rich tones, sharp focus, and strong contrast, showing only faint, minor surface dusting and light handling wear along the perimeters. The orange card mounts remain flat, rigid, and well preserved.
