.41 caliber. 3" octagon to round barrel. NSN. Browned finish, German silver mountings, checkered bird's head walnut stock. Single shot percussion muzzleloading pocket pistol with fixed notch rear sight, dovetailed German silver blade front sight and no provision for a ramrod in the stock. Lightly engraved back action percussion lock is marked "DERINGER / PHILADELA" in two lines, as is the breech of the pistol. Deringer's "P" proof is on the left angled breech flat. German silver bands are present at the breech. The triggeguard is broken off and missing. The pistol is retailer marked on the top of the barrel "WOLF & DURRINGER / LOUISE, KY / AGENTS."

The partnership of George Wolf Sr. and Joseph Durringer operated in Louisville circa 1859 to 1871. The firm was a classic mid-19th century "Fancy Goods" store that sold a variety of domestic and imported items ranging from watches and jewelry to firearms. They appear to have been primarily a firearms retailer, rather than maker, although they probably offered at least some gunsmithing services as well. During the 1860s they were agents for Henry Deringer and offered his pistols for sale, with their retailer mark on them. This is one of the less common Deringer retailer marks to be found on his guns. {ANTIQUE}

Good. Bore moderately oxidized with good, deep rifling. Metal moderately oxidized with some thin traces of brown finish on the barrel, a smoky brownish-gray lock and dull silvery mountings. Metal with some scattered surface oxidation, discoloration, freckles of surface roughness and some very minor scattered pitting. Triggerguard broken and missing. Mechanically functional action. Wood with moderate wear, lightly sanded with a loss of crispness to the checkering and scattered bumps, dings and mars.
